Steel Floor Supply Registers

Steel floor supply registers drop into a floor opening with a heavy-duty stamped face built to take foot traffic, unlike a wall or ceiling register. Within the floor registers range, AirGrilles stocks the steel style in 4 colors, black, brown, gray, and white, with widths from 2 inches to 6 inches and heights from 8 inches to 14 inches. A back damper behind the face fine-tunes airflow, the stamped edges carry no sharp points, and the register runs quiet underfoot. For a natural wood face in the same floor slots, AirGrilles also carries a wooden floor supply register in the same family. Bulk pricing runs across 6 quantity tiers with savings up to 30%, orders of 500+ units qualify for custom production, and in-stock items ship the same day on orders placed by 11AM ET.

Why Choose a Steel Face for a Floor Register

A steel floor register takes daily foot traffic, furniture legs, and vacuum contact better than a wood or decorative face in high-use rooms. Within the Floor Registers range, the steel style is the durable, budget option for hallways, kitchens, and other high-traffic floors. The face is stamped from heavy-duty steel with no sharp edges, so bare feet and pet paws contact a smooth surface. The powder-coated finish also resists the scuffs and corrosion a painted wood face would eventually show underfoot.

Noise-Free Operation and a Smooth Stamped Face

Steel floor supply registers run noise-free underfoot, without the rattle a loose or thin metal face can develop over time. The stamped construction removes sharp edges from the face, a detail that matters most in bare-foot rooms and around small children. A back damper behind the face still fine-tunes the volume of air entering the room, the same control used across the floor register range. AirGrilles also publishes a technical data sheet for this line, available from the collection page, with the construction specs the on-page bullets summarize.

Sizing, Bulk and Custom Orders

Steel floor registers are ordered by the duct opening, measured width by height, never by the outer cover. The outer face runs about 1-3/4 inches larger than the opening, so a 2"W x 10"H opening uses a 3-3/4"W x 11-3/4"H face that rests on the flooring around the hole. For the same slots in a natural wood finish, Wooden Floor Supply Registers cover the oak side of the range. Bulk pricing spans 6 quantity tiers: 1, 2-10, 11-20, 21-49, 50+, and 100+, with the 2"W x 10"H register falling from $15.99 at a single unit to $11.20 at the 50+ tier, a savings of 30%. Orders of 500+ units qualify for custom production depending on size, color, and lead time, and in-stock items ship the same day on orders placed by 11AM ET.

Common Questions About Steel Floor Supply Registers

These answers cover the strength, sizing, depth, and ordering questions that come up most on steel floor supply registers.

Are steel floor registers strong enough to walk on?

Yes, steel floor registers use a heavy-duty stamped face built to take foot traffic, furniture, and regular vacuum contact. The stamped construction leaves no sharp edges on the face, and the register runs noise-free without rattling underfoot. Choose steel for the highest-traffic rooms in a home or property.

How do I size a steel floor register?

Measure the duct opening width and height, then order by that listed size rather than the visible cover on an old register. The outer face runs about 1-3/4 inches larger because it rests on the flooring around the opening. Widths run 2 to 6 inches and heights 8 to 14 inches in stock.

How deep does a steel floor register sit in the opening?

The register drops into the duct boot below the floor, so the drop-in depth matters as much as the width and height when replacing an existing register. Older floors often have shallow boots that will not seat a deeper frame flush. Check the dimensions on each product listing before ordering, especially for replacements in an existing slot.

What is the difference between a floor register and a floor grille?

A steel floor register carries a back damper that opens and closes to control supply airflow into the room. Steel Heavy Duty Return Floor Registers pull air back to the system instead and typically ship without a damper. Check the product listing to confirm supply or return use before ordering.

What colors do steel floor registers come in?

The range ships in 4 colors: black, brown, gray, and white, all finished with a powder coat baked onto the steel. Gray and black suit utility spaces and dark flooring, while white and brown blend with lighter floors and trim. Check the product listing for the latest color availability.

Does AirGrilles offer a decorative or patterned steel floor register?

Decorative Floor Registers cover the same duct openings with a patterned steel face for living spaces and entryways. The plain steel style in this range stays smooth and uniform for utility and high-traffic rooms. Both are ordered by the same duct opening sizing.

Is there a bulk discount on steel floor registers?

Yes, bulk pricing applies automatically across 6 quantity tiers. A 2"W x 10"H register drops from $15.99 per unit to $11.20 at the 50+ tier, a savings of 30%. Orders of 500+ units qualify for custom production, and in-stock items ship the same day on orders placed by 11AM ET.

Good floor register

Fits snugly into the space. I changed the existing floor register to match my carpet shade. No negative comments. Just make sure you measure correctly

Accomplishes the Task

The old floor register was showing its age after many years of sitting in front of the deck slider. I thought the Handua Floor Register would provide a suitable replacement and it did. I chose black over the old off-white just for a change. This floor register seems well constructed. The louvers open and close smoothly. What more is there?

Will buy again

I ordered this to replace one of my floor registers that had been damaged. I know floor registers are not fancy or glamorous items so there isn't a whole lot to say in this review. It fits perfectly (be sure to measure correctly - the size listed is for the opening size) and it is easy to slide the lever open and closed. It is walked on regularly by my family and animals and is holding up well.

Fits as expected

I have been renovating my bathroom and decided to move the heating vent from the floor to a wall I'm putting in. I know this vent says it is for the floor, but I thought I would be able to make it work in a wall and it was the right measurements so I took a chance. I have not finished my install yet (since I still have a lot of other work I need to do first) but I did a test fit and everything looks perfect. There are a few things worth noting though if you are considering this product.First, It is a floor register. It will fit in any 3.25"x10" duct, but getting it to stay in place is another issue. Most wall or ceiling registers have screws on the front that will hold it in place. This one does not and does not have holes for any such screws. I haven't figured it all out for my situation yet, but I figure if I absolutely have to, I can drill a couple holes to fasten it to the wall. I would prefer not to go that route though because I like the nice clean look of it.Second, The adjustable flow part of this particular register is one flap that opens and closes. Most bigger registers have two or more that overlap and cut off the air flow, this one is just one fin that kind of blocks most of the air. It will not block it all so don't expect it to. Also, the one that I received was pretty stiff to open and close. After inspecting it closely, I noticed the fin part was slightly bent (a pretty common issue with a lot of these type of products) and I was able to straighten it out with some needle nose pliers and a bit of careful maneuvering. If you have to do that, be careful not to scratch the finish. Once straightened, the flap opens and closes a little easier, but still not quite as easily as I would expect. This is why I took one star off my review. Finally, when the flap is fully open, there is still a little bit of an angle to it so you'll want to be aware of that when you install it. This will make a difference in how the air flows. You may have to look down the duct to see which way it bends or decide if you want the air directed towards or away from a wall. In my situation, the air duct is pretty narrow so if I install it one way it will cut off most the air flow whereas if I install it the other way, it will work with the movement and allow the air to flow into the room nicely. Worst case scenario, you'll just have to test it and then switch it if you don't like the way it's working. The vent will fit in the duct equally well regardless of how it's facing.I think that's about it. Overall, I think this is a pretty good quality compared to the standard builders grade products most homes have. It's not prefect, but for the price, it's very reasonable and pretty much what I expected. Make sure you double check the size of the hole because they come in many different sizes.

Fresh look

Love the new clean look. The old ones were gross.Nice packaging in a box. Arrived perfect.
